Eurypterid fossil, eurypterus remipes, known as a “sea scorpion”, is the New York State Fossil. It is an extinct species of arthropod. Silurian, Fiddler’s Green Formation.
This fossil specimen is about 6.7 cm. (2.75 in.) long on a plate measuring approximately 3.5" x 2.7" x 0.35". Its head, stinger (telson), and 2 swimming legs are well preserved. The head, body, and swimming paddles of another fossil eurypterid are present in the lower portion of the specimen (near the telson).
